The Exotic Angel Brand® was born in 1971 in Apopka, FL — just outside of Orlando, Florida. The name of the brand comes from the German name of the founder: Engelmann. Translated, it means "A man of Angels".
After over 40 years of dedication, Hermann Engelmann Greenhouses has expanded to ten production locations operating with over 3 million square feet of glass greenhouses. Our Exotic Angel Brand® logo is known all over the world as a symbol of quality and innovation. We strive to inspire with our creative products and branding by offering a complete lifestyle accessory to our retailers and consumers.
Our company employs 300 dedicated people, many of whom have been with us for over 30 years. As we've grown, our commitment to excellent customer service has only become stronger. As our team has expanded, so have our capabilities. We're excited to offer our customers truly innovative products with a stylish edge.

Early Origins
Wolfgang Engelmann, COO, and Grandfather.

The founder and CEO, Hermann Engelmann, came to Apopka (just north of Orlando) in 1971, the same year Walt Disney World opened its doors.

Where others saw swamps and hot humid weather, Hermann Engelmann saw opportunity for a large scale greenhouse operation. The company began with one location and ten employees.

Hermann Engelmann hard at work with customers. With no computers or internet in the early years, all business was conducted via phone and fax. Hermann Engelmann served as CEO and salesman.

The first fleet of transportation for the company delivered product to local markets. Now, Hermann Engelmann Greenhouses, inc. delivers to over 10,000 retail stores nationwide.
1970's
In the late 1970’s the company produced 250 varieties and expanded, with the addition of locations 2 and 3.
1980's
Hermann is joined by his son, Wolfgang Engelmann, who serves as president/COO. The company began distributing Exotic Angel Plants® nationally.

Hermann Engelmann Greenhouses, inc. became the leader in indoor houseplant production, and received numerous distinguished industry awards. The brand is now a symbol of quality and innovation. Hermann spoke during the Tropical Plant Industry Expo Tradeshow in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

The company grew to 200 employees, many of which are still employed today. Hermann and Staff during an annual Holiday party- still held to this year.

In the 1990’s Hermann Engelmann Greenhouses, inc. was operating six locations and their plants were distributed in over 5,000 retail stores nationwide. Hermann and Wolfgang were joined by over 250 dedicated employees.

The production process continued to improve with movable benches and 2.7 million square feet of glass greenhouse space. The variety selection now exceeded 400.

Due to the complex exotic nature of our variety collection, a large private stock had to be created to meet demand. This private stock is now one of the largest in the U.S.
